Bomb Expert Charged in Blast That Injured Pregnant Wife

Nicholas Fabian, 32, was taken into custody soon after the blast in the village of Vigo on Friday.

His wife Victoria, also 32, was being treated by specialists in London for serious leg injuries suffered in the explosion, which struck in a parking lot.

Fabian's unborn child is believed to have escaped unharmed. Her eight-year-old son, who was also in the car at the time, was taken to hospital as a precaution but released after being kept in for observation.

Fabian, who is due to appear before magistrates in Dartford, is also charged with the unlawful possession of ammunition.

Relatives of Fabian say she has begun "her long road to recovery."

In a statement issued through police, they said: "The family is deeply saddened and shocked by Friday's incident and the sequence of events as they unfold.

"At the moment all our energy and attention is focused on supporting Vicky and her children."

Police and the U.K. Ministry of Defense have declined to comment on Fabian's army links.
